Decisions, decisions, decisions!

Right now if you looked in my PS3 you would see Fallout: New Vegas. Excellent game. Should I be good or bad? Should I join this faction? Should I kill my partner to finish the quest or kill the quest giver? Should I get those implants? (LOL)

In my 360 right now is the original Fable. Should I be good or evil? Should I just focus on the main story or check out the side quests? Do I want to get married or buy a house?

Decisions, decisions, decisions! I love these games but I have one problem with them. Open world RPGs STRESS ME OUT! What if I make the wrong decision? What if I piss some game character off and miss out on something completely awesome!? What if I accidentally kill someone who I was not supposed to kill? Or, like I did in Fallout 3, what if I explore too much and miss a giant chunk of the story?  I get so overwhelmed with “What Ifs” that I get to a point where I do not want to continue because I have this fear I might do the wrong thing.

Why do I care so much!? Most often I tell myself I will play the game a second time, be evil, and explore all the “What ifs” but that is only if I make it through the first time! THE STRESS IS SO INTENSE. It makes the games addicting, but I hate laying in bed, falling asleep and wondering….Should I trust this faction, I mean I might be able to use them in the future. I may want to just kill them though in case they turn against me for some reason, that way they are already dead. Maybe I should just ignore them all together? What if I leveled up and got my speech as high as possible, could I get everyone to get along? Screw that, I will just kill them all. Holy balls, I am insane.

I will blame all my mental agony on excellent writing and the game developers creating worlds I actually care about. I don’t want to see my characters or allies die! I don’t want to see the world destroyed! (…at least on my first play through.)  I want to do everything right, but it is not black and white (Well,  Fable kinda is…) it is grey! How do I know what the “right” thing to do is!?

So now, I am stressing about all my stressing, LOL! Anyone else feel the same? Have you ever stopped playing a game just because you did not want to make the wrong decision? Am I just crazy and take it all to seriously!?

WCG ‘Ultimate’ Gamer, Or So They Claim

Warning! Rant Ahead, Read At Your Own Risk.

WCG Ultimate Gamer, you may or my not have heard of this show. It is a reality show in which “Pro” Gamers live with each other and face off against each other in gaming challenges. There is the “real world challenge” which they do something (such as play a real instrument) that has to do with the game they are going to be playing. Then there is the challenge of actually playing the games. (In this case it was Rock Band 2) Whoever loses the challenges has the chance of being kicked out of the loft. So yeah, it is kinda like Big Brother, with a dash of video games.

It’s a decent enough concept, however what exactly makes a “Pro” Gamer? Based off the Rock Band 2 episode NONE of these gamers are “Pros.” DO NOT say you are ranked in the top 10 on Rock Band 2 and Ranked Top 5 in Rock Band 2 women if you cannot even strum up AND down and you get less then 100% on hard. What the hell is that about? Not only are you making the rest of us female gamers look bad, you are making WCG look bad, because you obviously gave them false information that they chose not to look into.

Play the damn game on Expert or do NOT call yourself a “Pro.” If my little sister can beat you at the very first challenge game, then you are NOT a pro gamer. (No offense to Scout…well maybe a little.) Perhaps I just expect more out of these “Pro” Gamers. In a way these guys are representing my fellow gamers and me, not only that, they are claiming to be better then us. So far I am NOT at all impressed.

A lot of their claim to fame is “I can pick up a game and in minutes I know how to play it!” Give any decent gamer a controller and a new game, within minutes they will be figuring it out. That does not make a pro gamer. Whoopie, learning to play a game in minutes, it’s called a DEMO.

On a side note: Being able to JUST play Madden does not even make you a gamer. That is all.

Now I respect WCG and the impact they have on eSports (Yes, it is a ‘sport.’ I can’t help but laugh at that, but at the same time think it is just pure AWESOME!) however, if this is what they expect out of their “Pro” Gamers, well, then that pisses me off. Just off the top of my head I can think of a TON of people who are better then these guys. Dajmer The Trophy Whore, TKKNMSTR (Unless he has to play Tekken or any game that involves finding a huge red button, he really sucks at those games…), JR (Shut up), Hell even Old Man George could pwn them at Burnout.

I am not saying I could beat them…wait… yes I am. I could have beat everyone of them at Rock Band 2 and that the fuels the fire. Maybe next season I should go on the show. Unfortunately, I know I am no where near attractive enough, because when you are a girl gamer, how you look matters WAY more then whether or not you have any skill, this show more then proves that… (For those of you who are going to reply that girls can’t play games, blah blah blah. Please answer one question, how the Hell are you holding your controller so that having a penis matters?)

This is probably the most annoying show I have ever watched, but you know what? I am going to continue to watch it. Why? Simply because I can’t help it. I am holding on to hope that maybe, just maybe, these gamers will prove me wrong and live up to the title of “Pro” Gamer. The gamer stereotype is going from “Guy in Mom’s basement” to…well, I guess we will find out.
